Summary:
The Human Resource Representative reporting to the Assistant Director for Labor and Employee Relations is responsible for assisting with routine disciplinary issues, serves as the primary contact for leaves of absence and assists with various labor relations matters.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the UIS compliance and servicing of employee Leaves of Absences, including administration and tracking of FMLA, FFCRA/ARPA, Military, VESSA and SURS disability processes. Serve as resource and provide information to supervisors and employees around related laws and leave policies, campus practices and procedures. Collaborate when appropriate with University Workers’ Compensation liaison.
  • Communicates appropriate information regarding an employee’s leave of absence with the employee and employees within the University who have an operational need to know. This may include, but not be limited too human resources and unit supervisory staff.
  • Monitor compliance with mandatory trainings, including, but not limited to the annual ethics training, Title IX training and technology trainings and other mandatory trainings. Assists in the processing of disciplinary actions for employees who are non-compliant.
  • Provides support to the collective bargaining process. This may include serving on the University bargaining team, coordinating meetings and/or serving as a primary contact on various issues.
  • Participate in labor management meetings and liaison with various union representatives as appropriate.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Labor & Employee Relations with the civil service disciplinary process, including explaining the processes and forms that are required, disseminating forms.
  • Prepare and/or format/edit labor relations documents. This may include collective bargaining agreements, grievance responses.
  • Assist in the costings of proposals for the bargaining process.
  • Assists in the development and presentation of training programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories below:
A. Course work in human resource administration, business administration or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
  • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
  • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
  • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
B. Progressively more responsible work experience maintaining, monitoring, and/or processing human resource records and reports.
